Liquid Private Bikes For Hire

by editors on October 29, 2012

Spinlister2

After deciding that traveling by car pretty much beats flying with bikes each and every time, we discovered Spinlister.com DoLiquid.com and started to rethink our travel plans.

Liquid, based in San Francisco, California, is an online “marketplace that lets you find the best bikes to rent online, whether from individuals or existing bike rental shops.” It also lets anyone with a bike rent it out. Not a bad idea really.

Now, rather than spending $400 on a bike bag and paying $150 each way to fly bikes around, we may just check in with Liquid and rent one when we get there. However, we doubt we’ll be renting David Tsee’s Scattante r570 Road Bike for $110 a day, although $170 for the week doesn’t sound too bad.

Check it out. The more people who sign up, the better it will be for everyone who travels and rides.

[Editors’ Note: Two days after we posted this Spinlister changed their name to Liquid. We’ve made corrections to update this post.]

UCI Backs Off On Kimmage Suit

by editors on October 26, 2012

Kimmage Paul Sundaytimes-1In what be a bit of a relief for Irish journalist Paul Kimmage the UCI announced today that it is “suspending its legal action,” according to a story on Velonation.

While the UCI has stopped short of ending its legal action, it has said that it will put it on hold for now. “While continuing strongly to maintain the merits of UCI’s case, the Committee decided to seek to suspend the UCI legal action against journalist Paul Kimmage, pending the findings of the independent Commission,” it stated in a release issued several minutes ago. . . “UCI President Pat McQuaid and Honorary President Hein Verbruggen who are individual parties to the case will similarly seek to put their cases on hold.”

If they had a shred of decency left in them McQuaid and Verbruggen would drop the whole thing.

2013 World Champ Mascot Is Pinocchio?

by editors on October 26, 2012

PinnocioOrganizers of the 2013 World Cycling Championships say their choice of Pinocchio has nothing to do with the recent USADA indictment of the BLOAT (a.k.a. Biggest Liar of All Time) and that it is simply a historical figure, according to a story on Velonews.

“Ours is a Pinocchio connected to his origins, happy, athletic and attentive,” according to the official website of the 2013 world championships. “He is looking at the horizon, expressing an optimistic attitude versus the future. The expression of his face is smiling, happy, positive and at the same time astonished.”

Apparently, the Italian have no sense of irony. Wouldn’t it be better just to embrace it?

Behind The Barriers S3 E4

by editors on October 26, 2012

When we last left cyclocross stud Jeremy Powers he was just kicking off the season with a quick trip through Las Vegas. Well, a lot has gone down in three episodes and here we are again to catch back up.

Jeremy’s first task is to find Brown University’s 95.5 WBRU to spread the word about the race with promoter, and all-around good guy, Richard Fries. After hitting the airwaves, it’s off to Providence’s famed Biltmore Hotel, where the entire New England cyclocross community is on display. After all the rubbing elbows is done off the course, it’s time to rub elbows inside the tape.

The rest is 20 minutes of. . . well, you know the rest.

ERW Airless MTB Tires?

by editors on October 26, 2012

While the idea of riding without worrying about a flat or carrying air is intriguing, these ERW Airless Tires looks like they’ll collect all kinds of dirt, rocks, mud etc. . . on the inside. We haven’t ridden them, but until their sides are closed off it seems all manner of debris would rattle around in there. Then again, Britek is still working on it.

Hero3 Snow Riding The Hole

by editors on October 26, 2012

Andrew Whiteford gets a little first-snow time in with the new GoPro Hero3. And yeah, it looks amazing.

The lonely (g)narwhal rides again! I was really psyched to try out the new cam. I had time to get a quick ride in on the 23rd and a hot lap around Antelope Flats and Moose-Wilson on the 24th. Looking forward to some worthy adventures!

And yeah, Jackson Hole looks great in the fall.

Greg LeMond Calls For McQuaid’s Head

by editors on October 25, 2012

GreglemondIn an open letter to the UCI, posted on The Inner Ring, America’s greatest cyclist Greg LeMond said that it is time for the corrupt UCI leadership to get out of the way.

I want to tell the world of cycling to please join me in telling Pat McQuaid to f##k off and resign. I have never seen such an abuse of power in cycling’s history- resign Pat if you love cycling. Resign even if you hate the sport. . . Pat McQuaid, you know damn well what has been going on in cycling, and if you want to deny it, then even more reasons why those who love cycling need to demand that you resign.

LeMond also called for all cyclists to avoid purchasing a USA Cycling license and to support the Paul Kimmage Defense Fund in his fight against the UCI. For the rest of the strongly worded letter and great commentary click the link.
