RoadID Goes Mobile In IOS

by editors on May 5, 2014

Roadid App Landingpage Fa

We all ride with Road ID bracelets all the time. Kind of morbid, yes, but it’s something we do because it makes sense. Now, the company behind RoadID has a new app for IOS that takes the RoadID one step further. With the Road ID App friends and family can now follow along on your rides in real time, and even be alerted if you stop for more than five minutes.

With amazing features like eCrumb Tracking, a Stationary Alert, and a custom Lock Screen creator, the Road ID App is your perfect training partner. With the ability to track your workouts in real time, your friends and family can stay better connected whenever you head outdoors…delivering peace of mind like never before.

We haven’t tested it out, and we’re not sure we’d like to share too much info with too many of our friends, but for people trying to meet up on a ride or for nervous spouses, this could be a great solution. Then again, we use Apple’s Find My Friends app on our phones all the time so we might not even need this. Check it out and let us know how it goes.

SoftWheel Puts Suspension In The Wheel

by editors on May 5, 2014

Interesting tweak on suspension from and Israeli wheelchair designer. It’s called SoftWheel and it puts the suspension between the rim and the hub. Not sure what keeps the front wheel from blasting up into the forks, but it seems like it could be a less bulky way to soften the ride without adding much weight.

After the race dust had settled, disco music was turned off, and their wounds started to heal, the Smith team took off south heading into the unknown hoping to discover more wild trails, breathtaking views and experience much more of the welcoming Chilean culture. To their surprise, they were welcomed by bamboo forests, volcanic rich soil, and some unbelievable trails in Chillan…

Dan Morgan’s Three-Foot Flag Videos

by editors on April 23, 2014

Like many metro areas around the world, cycling in traffic can be dicey. Recent legislation enacted in 22 states (Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah and Wisconsin. Pennsylvania has a 4-foot passing law) require cars to stay at least three feet away from cyclists when passing.

To help drivers better understand what three feet is, Houston, Texas’ Dan Morgan has mounted a flag that protrudes out three feet from the back of his bicycle. He then points a camera at it and records while he rides. When people hit his flag, he turns them (and their license numbers) into the police. Yeah, he goes a bit over the line (“that’s the purpose of the flag, asshole”), but sometimes it takes people like Dan to really ride a point home.

The Smith MTB adds another chapter from their Andes Pacifico Enduro race report (in Chile) and this time there is blood. . . pulsing, gaping, deep gash blood and some moaning. Know how that feels? Sure you do!
