Have to be honest. After following NBA legend and hardcore cyclist Bill Walton around downtown San Diego, running red lights, ignoring stop signs, and rolling right out into traffic on a Tour of California promo ride on October 22, 2015, we were pretty confident that news of his death yesterday (May 27, 2024) would involve a bicycle. It didn’t.
Walton reportedly died surrounded by family after a battle with cancer. As cyclists, we never know which is worse. Either way, we’re going to miss his outsized personality both on and off the bike. And our thougths are with his family and his fans.
