LEAVENWORTH, WA (July 31, 2012) – Celebrating its 75th year in operation, Stevens Pass Mountain Resort is pleased to announce the opening of summer operations, offering the only lift access downhill mountain biking in Washington State. With two bike trails recently completed – an intermediate excavated trail and an advanced single track trail, this marks the start of multi-season recreation opportunities at Stevens Pass. Construction on the trails began in July of 2011 after Stevens Pass was granted approval for the Bike Park project in September of 2010.

“We are ecstatic to have these first two trails completely built,” said Joel Martinez, Vice President of Operations for Stevens Pass. “The process took seven years for approval to build and it’s amazing to finally see and ride these trails at the mountain.”

The Stevens Pass Bike Park opened this summer, in early July, with just the top halves of the two trails open. With the trails now complete, the terrain offerings now appeal to different skill levels of riders.

“Riders can expect a variety of terrain,” said James Munly, Lead Trail Builder. “The advanced single track trail has lots of rocks, roots and steep and narrow sections, while the intermediate excavated trail offers flawy terrain such as smooth berms and jumps, more suited towards the casual rider.”

To kick off the completion of the trails, Stevens Pass will host their first major event for the Bike Park, the Northwest (NW) Cup – a race series that holds events at several locations within Washington and Oregon. The Stevens Pass stop will be the culmination of the series; the final race of the year. The event will take place Friday, August 3 through Sunday, August 5 and is expected to draw over 400 participants.

“To host an event of this caliber has been a long time coming. We’re proud to host the NW Cup Finals and showcase our trails to the dedicated and passionate group of Northwest racers,” said Joel Martinez.

The bike park will be closed to non-racers during the event weekend, however Stevens offers scenic chairlift rides for those who would like to watch the action from on the mountain.
