Blazing Saddles: Rumble at the Ranch

by editors on May 4, 2021

Registration opened today, May 4, 2021, for a unique, new, cycling, music, and food festival from the people who bring you the Belgian Waffle Ride. It’s called Blazing Saddles: Rumble at the Ranch. And it will be held October 15-17, 2021 in Escondido, California.

“The festival was conceived during the downtime of Covid, when the riddle was posed: In 2000, if Coachella and Sea Otter Bike Festival had a lovechild, what would it be like today?” says Monuments of Cycling CEO, Michael Marckx. “It will be a festival to showcase Southern California’s thriving cycling, culinary, beer and music scenes and will be presented with an appreciation for bringing the world together again in a beautiful, idyllic and rustic oasis. In addition to 6-, 12- and 24-hour racing for both mountain bikers and gravel riders (for individuals and teams), BLAZING SADDLES, not unlike Coachella, will incorporate camping options with a seamless, interactive experience for all guests and be the first festival of its kind. We love festivals, but no one has ever brought all these complementary things together in one three-day extravaganza!”

Registration is open today. Click here for all the details, of follow the jump for more of the official word from Monuments of Cycling.

Time To Sagan-Up Roadie-oh Fans

by editors on September 13, 2019

This fall, November 8-10, 2019, Southern California cyclists will get the chance to ride with old three titles, himself, Peter Sagan as he brings his Sagan Fondo Gran Roadie-Oh to San Diego County.

The ride will feature a Friday Gala for Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and Outride Foundation, a Saturday Sagan Fondo Expo and VIP event and the Gran Roadie-Oh on Sunday with three different distances for riders to choose from (50 km, 100 km and 150 km), beginning at 7:00am. The unique routes take riders through the hills and valleys of beautiful North County San Diego. Sagan is opting for the longest 150-km/93-mile route. Both Saturday and Sunday’s festivities will take place at North City in San Marcos and benefit CAF.

For those who don’t know, this event is being produced by the same crew that created the world famously brutal Belgian Waffle Ride  so you know it will be good, plus, Peto Sagan. Right? When was the last time you got to ride with a 3X World Champion? We’re guessing it’s been a while. So, click the link for all the details and get registered. It’s going to a be a great weekend in San Diego where you know the weather will be better than pretty much anywhere else in the world. Plus, there’s also this:

Wend Wax Goes Day-Glo

by editors on July 12, 2018

Second to the silky smoothness we get from a well waxed chain, we love the smell of Wend Wax. Rubbing it on our chains is like getting the fresh blasting breeze of speed. But now, our olfactory isn’t the only sense getting tickled. Nope. Wend Wax is serving up their rub-on chain lube in six new day-glo shades of visual bling: blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and pink.

“Our mission at WEND is to follow suit with the legacy of Wax Research—which means we’re all about creating unconventional formulas that work along with bringing products to market that no one has ever created before,” says company co-founder Ryan Dahl. “This collection isn’t just big for us at WEND, it’s exciting for the entire cycling community and we’re happy to introduce something unique and fun that works even better than it looks.”

Isn’t it about time you got waxed in matchy-matchy colors? We think so. Click here to buy some or follow the jump for all the official details.

Canyon Grabs Title BWR Sponsorship

by editors on October 26, 2017

The country’s most unique cycling event, The Belgian Waffle Ride, has a new title sponsor for 2018 with Canyon Bicycles. The Germany based company, which sells bicycles directly to consumers via their website, launched their brand in the United States in mid August.

“The Canyon Belgian Waffle Ride will be an ideal event for Canyon to showcase their variety of bikes perfect for the back roads of San Diego, or whatever twisted courses your heart may lead you on,” says Blair Clark, Canyon U.S. president. “The BWR, or ‘Hell of the North County,’ is not just an extraordinary race. It’s a celebration of life, how much can be accomplished on a bike, and the magical connections that develop between people who suffer together (s)mile after (s)mile.”

2017 BWR Registration Now Open

by editors on November 30, 2016

bwr2017grass

Big, fancy, famous, gravel grinding, dirt churning, road racing suffer fests like North County San Diego California’s 2017 Cervélo Belgian Waffle Ride tend to sell out early for some reason and that’s why we’re reminding you that registration for the 2017 event (scheduled for Sunday May 21, 2017) is now open. Click here to register before you read the rest, if you must.

What’s up for the 2017 event? Here are a few details from the organizers:

The course will change a bit this year and not be quite as long. Yes, you read that correctly. As with all spring classics, sometimes the courses change for the better. We know ours is.

There is a new team category being added to the event for both the Waffle and Wafer. You will be able to race with your teammates against other teams in Male, Female and Co-Ed classifications.  The cumulative time of the top four finishers from each team  will determine the placings.

This will be the most festive and interesting event to date. We have many new fun and exciting features to roll out for everyone this year, on a more manageable course, with a stacked field of riders from all over the world.

We are very pleased to share all of this with you in May.

Danke,

Nor sure what the Belgian Waffle Ride is all about? Click here for Bikeistan’s total coverage from the beginning including results, photos galleries, and horror stories from the road. We’ll keep you posted as more info becomes available and remember, it’s never too early to start training for the BWR.

Getting A Road Bike Ready For Dirt

by editors on April 2, 2015

A 135 mile Belgian Waffle Ride might be a little much for some bikes, but if you’re going to ride or race on a little gravel there are a few things you can do to make that ride a little more enjoyable. Here Art’s Cyclery goes through some of the details.
