WTB Goes Gravel With A 40c Nano

by editors on February 21, 2014

Wtb Nano 40CSeriously? In addition to a mountain, road, and cross bike we also apparently need a “gravel” bike? We’re not doing it. But if you are, then WTB has what looks to be a great tire in their new Nano 40c.

“The inspiration for this tire actually came directly from this show one year ago,” stated WTB’s Product Manager, Chris Feucht in reference to Frostbike 2013. “We were blown away by the number of requests we received for a gravel tire last year so we took a long, hard look at our tire line and decided to use the Nano tread pattern as a starting point. We wanted something that would appease racers due to its speed and light weight, yet also appeal to those wanting comfort over the long haul. By simplifying the pattern slightly, we’ve actually created a more durable tire while maintaining speed and the unique Nano handling characteristics, making for a winner.”

Personally, we’d just throw it on the cross bike (if we had one) and call it a day, but, hey, have as many bikes as you like. Follow the jump for the official word from WTB [click to continue…]

Chrome’s Give Work The 415 Boot

by editors on February 12, 2014

415 Redleather Heroup

Our friends often don’t believe us (because they think we ride all day long) but we do occasionally work. And when we do there is nothing like a good pair of sneakers posing as boots to get us through. And Chrome Industries (makers of bulletproof messenger bag etc. . . ) have the perfect boot in the 415. Now they have a limited edition version.

We made our limited edition Red Leather 415 Work Boot to provide the stability and protection of a work boot with the mobility and feel of a sneaker. We noticed that work has changed but everyone is still wearing boots made for standing on the factory floor. We wanted a boot that didn’t require a long break-in period. One you could bike, skate, walk, and ride a motorcycle in. Red Leather 415s are made using weatherproof, oiled, full grain leather. Durable, and built for urban trades.

The Red 415s are available online for $130.00. Click the link and check them out.

Derringer’s Electric Bike Needs Kickstart

by editors on January 9, 2014

With only 12 days to go, Los Angeles’ Derringer Cycles is no where near reaching their Kickstarter goal of $75,000 for their new Derringer Electric. In fact, with 30 backers they’ve only raised $1,644. Which is strange, because these electric board track inspired powered bicycles look amazing.

At the heart of every Derringer Electric is a powerful lithium-ion (Li-NMC) battery. This safe, reliable chemistry allows for high current draw, has great energy density, and still provides a long lifetime of 1000 recharge cycles. Bikes are available with 37, 52, and 63-volt batteries, each with a 12.5 Ah capacity. Heritage and Signature Series bikes include a 4 Amp charger that can recharge a fully drained battery in three hours. Bespoke buyers get an upgraded 6 Amp charger that drops charging time to two hours.

Guess no one wants a really cool looking electric bike. Click the link for more info.

WTB Goes Tubeless For Cyclocross

by editors on October 17, 2013

Chris Cross Wtb

Sometimes it seems those slow-to-change cyclocross traditionalists are being dragged into the future kicking and screaming. First it was disc brakes (oh, the horror) and now it is tubeless tires. You know, like the ones mountain bikes have been running for years and cars have been rolling for decades. WTB is backing this latest development pretty hard with their new ChrisCross i19 700c TCS rim and Cross Wolf 700 x 32c TCS tire.

“The ChrisCross is named after me because I wanted it on my bike,” stated WTB’s Product Manager Chris Feucht, matter-of-factly. “Cyclocross needs tubeless, so I walked this rim from concept all the way to production, hence ChrisCross. Plus, it pays homage to one of my heroes, Chris Chance, who had a bike called the Chris Cross back in the day.” When combined with the Cross Wolf 700 x 32c TCS tire, also UST standards-driven, riders now have a tubeless cyclocross system available from WTB.

It’s about time. For the official word from WTB follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Pure Fix Pours A Stiff Bourbon

by editors on October 7, 2013

Web-City 0001 Bourbon 1024X1024

We see no real purpose for the city bike. But even hardened as we are, we do admit to enjoying the smooth urban lines of the Pure Fix Cycles Bourbon. Like they say:

Our Bourbon is one smooth glass of class. Designed to effortlessly take you from Point A to Point B(ar), it’s ready to quench your thirst for riding, and give you a nice little buzzy feeling at the same time.

If we weren’t so dedicated to the segment, we might even take one of these little cruisers for a sip.

Are Friends Electric? The Kranked V10

by editors on September 27, 2013

There’s nothing that sells to fat America like an electric bike. The Interbike 2013 show was littered with all manner of electric powered bicycles, but the ones that seemed to get the most play were the “self-shuttling” downhill and enduro bikes. Like this one from Kranked.

Wahoo Goes ANT+ With The RFLKT+

by editors on September 4, 2013

Wahoo Fitness is turning to Kickstarter to round up cash for their newest RFLKT computer. Rather than using Bluetooth Smart, the RFLKT+ will act as a bridge to connect to ANT+ sensors (without any strange dongles, cases, or other funkiness) to the iPhone 5. They also plan to include a barometric altimeter as well.

The RFLKT+ Smart bike computer taps into the power of your iPhone to provide you GPS data plus the functionality of your favorite App. The RFLKT+ is a reflection of your iPhone, with the App controlling everything you see on your bike computer screen.

Wahoo hopes to raise $100,000 on Kickstarter. So far they’re at $40k with 16 days to go. If you’d like an ANT+ RFLKT the click on over and show them the money.
