Cyclists and cycling fans around the world will have to chance to see the story of the first five years of Australia’s own Greenedge pro cycling team when a new film All For One shows in theaters for one night on May 2, 2018.
ALL FOR ONE follows the first five years of the GreenEDGE cycling journey. United by their renegade spirit and a determination to win against substantial odds, these riders take on the international circuit. The film offers unique insights into the first five years of their journey, bearing witness to the ethos of the team as embodied by all – from the strongest to most embattled members. Out of a culture that embraces a deeply human approach to sport, unlikely champions are born, and seemingly improbable team and personal goals are achieved.
The film gets off to a slow start and it’s a little “inside cycling,” but once it gets rolling it is well worth the ride for anyone who loves cycling. Click the link to find a theater near you.
Where have we been the last 13 months? Dean Ween (half of one of our favorite bands of all time) put this Exercise Man video out over a year ago and it just made it through our feeds via a snowboard event musical line-up. How, how, how can we be so out of touch? Oh, maybe it’s the whole bike thing. . .
Okay, so this is definitely not us nor anyone we know, but apparently there is a whole middle aged cycling thing going on around the world. What? Well. A new documentary reportedly explains it all: MAMIL: Middle Aged Men In Lycra. On the weekend of April 14-15, 2018 cyclists, vintage bike enthusiasts, and fans of classic, steel bikes will roll in to Paso Robles, California for the 2018 Eroica California. Don’t know what it is? It’s a retro cycling festival that goes a little like this:
Eroica participants are required to ride “historical bikes” or bikes preferably built in 1987 or earlier, but to take the vintage theme even further, many riders choose to wear authentic, vintage garb including wool jerseys, retro cycling goggles and lace-up shoes. Festivities on both days, including the Tuscan dinner, are open to the public and spectators are invited to watch the ride and welcome the riders at the finish line.
There are rides, shows, presentations, talks, discussions, and more. You know, those classic bike fetishist always know how to throw a crazy party, so this year should be fun. For the official details, please follow the jump or click here for the Eroica California website.
Antoine Bizet’s run at the Colored Cow’s Virgin Utah Event blew our minds. But after watching the entire event we can say this: the scoring is confused, the wait between runs is excruciatingly boring, and it is so gnarly that no one who hasn’t done it understands any of it anyway. This run put Antoine in 12th place and featured a backflip, another backflip, front flip, and a double back while charging it full speed the whole way down. Viva la France, people’s choice winner. Sorry about the judging.
We had the privilege of riding, hanging out, and guiding John Tomac around the Eastern Sierra for a week during the summer of 1987. It was at the height of the Tomac vs. Overend MTB era and we kind of expected John to be a dick. Turned out he was nice, kind, and didn’t even laugh when we apologized for not being able to keep up on a ride. After watching this video it’s nice to see that not much has changed. Our favorite line:
The problem was the whole performance enhancing drug thing kind of bled over into cross country mountain biking and we [American XC racers] came off the radar in the 90s,” Tomac says. “And it wasn’t because we forgot how to ride mountain bikes in America. . .I don’t think the athletes in cross country mountain biking in the US ever bought into the whole doping program. They just didn’t do it.”
