Checkout Pivot’s New Trail 429

by editors on May 17, 2018

The semantic progression goes something like this. Mach429, Mach429 Trail, and now Pivot is putting Trail first with the Trail 429. Here’s what Pivot has to say about it:

We took the original Mach 429 Trail, completely reshaped the chassis and gave the bike a truly progressive geometry. The new Trail 429 is even more capable on technical terrain than its predecessor yet doesn’t sacrifice a thing in the quick and nimble departments. . . Effortless handling, incredible power transfer and blazing acceleration are what set the Trail 429 apart from so many other trail bikes.

Okay. We get it. It’s a 429 Trail. Exactly what most of the MTB riders we know are looking for. For all the details, click the link.

Nixon Puts A Santa Cruz On Your Wrist

by editors on October 5, 2017

Fans of The Syndicate can get a little Santa Cruz love on their wrist with a new limited edition collection of watches from Santa Cruz Skateboards and Nixon watches.

Nixon’s classic Time Teller is reimagined through the Santa Cruz lens, culminating in designs that are true to each brand. The iconic graphics featured within the collection include: the ‘Screaming Hand,’ the Rob Roskopp Arm, Jason Jessee Lady of Guadalupe and the Santa Cruz logo.

Sure, Santa Cruz bicycles are no longer owned by the people who own the skateboard company, but the logo will still look great with your new V10. (Sidenote: is Mr. Roskopp wearing his watch as we type? Anyone know?)

Suunto Adds Barometer To Spartan Sport

by editors on September 28, 2017

The battle for your active wrist heated up a little today as Suunto announced that they’ve added a barometer to their Spartan Sport Wrist HR GPS multisport watch. The Spartan Sport, which competes directly with Garmin’s fenix line of watches, also got a battery life bump. We’d still choose the fenix given the choice, however it’s good to see that Suunto hasn’t given up the fight yet. For cyclists who’ve had enough of Garmin this watch is a good choice. For the official word from Suunto (including all the details) please follow the jump.

Yamaha Speeds The E-pocalypse

by editors on September 14, 2017

In one more bit of evidence that fatamerica is winning, Yamaha is dropping e-bikes on us at Interbike according to a press release posted on VitalMTB.com.

Yamaha Motor Company, Ltd. (YMC) launched the world’s first electrically power assisted bicycle in 1993 and has since produced more than 4 million drive units and sold over 2 million Yamaha power assist bicycles. YMC supplies class-leading e-Bike Systems to select OEM partners worldwide.

In other words, this isn’t their first rodeo. But don’t be fooled. E-bikes are just another problem, not a solution for anything other than the possibility of safer Supercross. Just think how much safer Supercross would be if the riders were forced to ride 55 pound e-bikes. . .

Oakley Rolls Out Helmets and Kits

by editors on August 30, 2017

Oakley has always made great performance eyewear for doing almost anything, but in cycling eyewear was about as far as they went. Today that’s changed as the company announced full “head-to-ankle” coverage for cyclists. The new line includes kits, socks, gloves and a complete line of boss looking helmets including this AERO5 Redline featuring MIPS technology.

“Two wheels are in Oakley’s DNA. We began with a grip, and we have expanded since,” said Olaf Dunz, Global Marketing Director at Oakley. “Applying what the brand has learned in eyewear – from protection from the elements to optimized aerodynamics – we are now diving deeper into cycling with the same goal we started with: optimize rider interaction with the world around them and improve performance.”

We’re looking forward to checking it all out in more detail. For all the official details from Oakley, including a look at their appropriately all black kits, follow the jump.
