Former Tour de France Winner’s Bad Day

by editors on October 17, 2012

Lance DidntOh, did you hear the one about the famous cyclist who stepped down from his cancer foundation and got cut by his major sponsor all in the same day? Our favorite was the brevity of the press release. Here it is in full:

Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him. Nike does not condone the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs in any manner. . . Nike plans to continue support of the Livestrong initiatives created to unite, inspire and empower people affected by cancer.

And he still says he did nothing to deserve any of this. We do however, agree with Deadspin’s Drew Magary when he says, “Hey, Phil Knight. We now have insurmountable evidence that you’re a dipshit.”

Cycle Passion Calendar Returns For 2013

by editors on October 16, 2012

Oct

Germany’s Nadine Rieder (above and here) certainly know how to ride a wheel if her October page in the Fairwheel Bike’s 2013 Cycle Passion calendar is any indication. Rieder is joined in photographer Daniel Geiger’s photos by an oiled up crew of peddlers including Netherland’s Anneke Beerten (and again), American Sonya Looney (and again), Hugary’s Barbara Benko (and here), Austria’s Irina Kirchler (and here), Germany’s Kristina Vogel and Nadine Rieder (and here), and Italy’s Julia Innerhofer (click their names to see their shots).

Attempting to approach the calendar with a different theme every year, the 2013 calendar features models superimposed with the components that they race. Now in the largest format ever, the calendar measures 68 x 40 cm (27 x 16″). The double sided format, popular in the 2012 calendar, pairs a tastefully sexy shot with a racing photograph, providing a full spectrum of the professional lives of each model.

Okay, sure. We’ll go with that. The calendar is selling for an outrageous $50.00. If you’re into hot cycling girls, guess that’s the price you pay.

Baseball Manager Crashes While Texting

by editors on October 3, 2012

Bio BobbyvBoston Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine was reportedly injured yesterday (Tuesday, October 3, 2012) in New York City when he crashed his bike in Central Park while reading a text, according to a story in The New York Times.

On the wet, slippery path, Valentine was reading a text on his phone from Dustin Pedroia, the Red Sox second baseman, and riding his bicycle. When he looked up, he had to swerve to avoid the umbrellas of two French tourists walking in front of him. The bike skidded, and he lost his balance and went careening head over pedals down the side of the hill by the road.

Remember, don’t text and ride, especially if your real skills are on the diamond.

Taylor Swift Bikes Paris On A Flat

Taylor Swift is working on a new video in Paris, France this week and it would appear that riding a bike play a big part in her Sound of Music inspired video, or something like that. Either way, she looks good on the wheels, even if her front tire looks a little low.
